Veteran officer Robert Bugsch promoted to a leadership position vacant since the early 2000s
For the first time in a quarter-century, the Bensalem Township Police Department has a Captain. In a ceremony held this past Wednesday, township officials officially reinstated the high-ranking leadership position, promoting veteran officer Robert Bugsch to fill the role.
Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and Director of Public Safety William McVey announced the promotion, signaling a structural shift for the department. Captain Bugsch is no stranger to law enforcement or the Bensalem community; he brings 30 years of total experience to the table, with 23 of those years served right here in the township. Before joining Bensalem’s ranks, he spent seven years as an officer in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Bugsch’s resume is extensive. Over the years, he has commanded several critical units, including the Professional Services Division, the Special Investigations Unit, the Motor Patrol Unit, and SWAT. His leadership credentials also include graduating from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety Staff and Command School and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. Beyond his badge, Bugsch is known for organizing the annual Bucks County Tour of Honor for Veterans and supporting the Bucks County Hero Scholarship Fund.
