Amazon Fresh Bensalem Finally Happening
The long wait is over. The 42,000-square-foot Amazon Fresh Bensalem is slated to open on August 22nd.
Gone, however, is the “Just Walk Out” feature, which would have enabled customers to pay for their items without stopping at a register. The idea was scrapped in favor of the new Dash Carts that allow shoppers to scan their items and keep a running receipt as they go before heading to a register.
While it remains to be seen if the Amazon Fresh stores are as affordable as Amazon claims, we know the store will have convenient delivery and checkout options. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, there will be an additional 10 percent off on hundreds of items, in addition to rotating discounts applied across the store.
“Amazon already has a large online grocery business and millions of products available for fast delivery, but if you want to serve as many grocery needs as we do, you have to offer customers great selection, value, and convenience—not just online, but in physical stores too. We remain committed to grocery, and will selectively open new Amazon Fresh stores as we see positive customer feedback on the new format, as well as continue to open new Whole Foods Market stores,”
Amazon Fresh is expected to carry a wide selection of national brands, as well as Amazon’s private label brands like Aplenty, Fresh Brand, and 365 by Whole Foods Market. The store will also carry convenience items like grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, wraps, snack boxes, take-and-bake pizzas, ready-to-heat burritos, and ready-made meals.
Bensalem will become the third Amazon Fresh store in Pennsylvania joining Warrington, and Broomall. There are plans for stores in Langhorne, Willow Grove, and Havertown. Delays in Willow Grove led to a lawsuit filed against Amazon last year by developer Federal Realty Investment Trust. Amazon, in turn, filed a countersuit against Federal.
Amazon Fresh will be open seven days a week from 8 am to 10 pm.
