Playa Bowls Bensalem – The Review

At Playa Bowls, their mission statement is “Our focus is to provide a bowl full of deliciousness to every guest, delivered with authenticity and passion for the Playa way.” While I may not know what the Playa way is, I can say everything else is firing on all cylinders.

Service

A bright comfortable interior in a fantastic location with plenty of seating, and music at just the right volume. We went during what should have been the height of the lunch rush, there weren’t many people eating in the store. There was no shortage of customers ordering takeout and picking up online orders. The constant stream of customers were handled by what looked just two counter staff. And they were fast, friendly, and amazing.

Customer menu options are abundant but not mind-numbingly so. You have bases of Acai, Green Bowl (Kale), Pitaya (Dragon Fruit), Banana, Coconut, Mango and Oatmeal. Smoothies and fresh juices round out the menu. All of which you can customize mix and add on to, to your heart’s delight.

This was our first time here, but not the last time because it took me a couple of days to write this review and I found myself coming back again and again. Once after shopping at Giant because it’s right next door and once after going to Panera, which is also next door. This is why I say they have a great location.

On the first trip there we ordered a Dolce smoothie which is a blend of banana, chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, and coconut milk. We also ordered the Stupid Cupid bowl, because with a name like that why wouldn’t you? The bowl has a smoothie base of strawberry, banana, and coconut milk topped with granola, fresh strawberries, coconut flakes, raw cacao nibs, Nutella, and white chocolate.

So how did it taste?

It was great! I tried to think of something not to like, a flavor that was off anything not quite right. But everything was great. You could make the argument that there should be more strawberries but that’s just me and doesn’t take away from how good their bowls are. The smoothie was just as good and leaves you with an interesting aftertaste that switches from a hint of chocolate to a hint of peanut butter, then over to banana.

Every new item I’ve tried was great. I’d recommend the Stupid Cupid, Costa Bowl, and Pink Power if you’re looking to dip your toe in Playa Bowl waters. But I don’t think you can go wrong with anything you pick.

Just look at it!!!!!

Price

Ok, while not the cheapest way to go when you’re looking for a treat, dessert, or lunch. It is guilt-free eating and I don’t know about you but whenever I eat fast food for lunch or some other less healthy option, I am always hungry again in an hour and then I’m buying something else to fill that void until dinner.

It’s fiber for the win because almost everything on the menu is packed with it keeping you fuller longer. At least that has been my experience.

So in that context, I feel like I can justify the price. Cheaper than the fast food lunch with the “snack” chaser an hour or so later.

The last word(s)

I’m hooked on Playa Bowls and I’m fairly sure you’ll be too. The service was great and while everything was freshly prepared you won’t be waiting too long for your order. And while you wait, you can just enjoy the vibe and listen to some tunes while staring at the palm trees.

The ultimate test will be during to height of summer and a packed store. Will the customer service still be as good or will the orders keep waiting forever?

I think they’ll be just fine!
