This morning at approximately 10:40 am the Bensalem Police Department responded to a head-on collision at the 2200 block of Street Road. The two vehicles involved were an Amazon delivery contractor van and Bensalem Fire Department Truck 222. The incident happened with the Amazon driver, 22-year-old Cervantes Lebron of Philadelphia, traveling west on Street Road, for unknown reasons crossed over the center turning lane into oncoming traffic. The Bensalem fire truck, heading east swerved to avoid the collision but was hit head-on by the work van.

While suffering injuries of their own, 2 Bensalem firefighters rushed to the aid of Cervantes, who was trapped in his van, used the “Jaws of Life” to cut the critically injured free and transport him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Cervantes sustained significant injury and is currently listed in critical condition.

The two injured firefighters were treated for minor injuries and released.

Cervantes’ company has said he had no deliveries in Bensalem. Police are looking into his cell phone records to determine if distracted driving was behind his erratic behavior.

Street Road was closed in both directions between Knights Road and Hulmeville Road until around 2:30 p.m. as police investigated the scene.

This is currently an active investigation and the Bensalem Police have not provided any further information time.
