National Clear The Shelters Day

Women’s Animal Center is a proud animal shelter participating in this year’s 10th Anniversary NBCUniversal ‘Clear the Shelters’ nationwide pet adoption event that helps find loving forever homes for surrendered and stray animals. And thanks to the generous financial support of Inspire Federal Credit Union as this year’s Event Partner, adoption fees for cats, dogs, and small animals will be fully waived/FREE for individuals and families adopting from Women’s Animal Center on Saturday, September 7th.

“Inspire Federal Credit Union is incredibly proud to support such a worthwhile initiative, “said Jim Merrill, President/CEO of the Bucks County-based credit union. “The role the shelter plays in our local community is transformative, and the positive impact pet adoptions have on families is powerful. Contributing our resources to finding good homes for these pets is truly rewarding.”

All shelter pets adopted from Women’sAnimal Center are spayed or neutered, receive preventative and lifesaving vaccines, and are microchipped which provides a permanent means of identification should a pet become separated from its new family.

The non-profit organization is celebrating its 155th anniversary as America’s First Animal Shelter. Its thirty trailblazing women founders led by Caroline Earle While, launched the animal sheltering and adoption movement in America.

From completing families through adoption to providing services for your pet’s care, Women’s Animal Center is a partner through a lifetime of companionship.

The benefits of giving a shelter pet a forever home are numerous, with obviously the first and most important being love. For those potential adopters wanting to bring a pet into their home, it’s important to ask these questions:

  • First, know what you’re looking for in a pet. Do you want a four-legged friend to join you on your daily run or a pet who is going to take on more of a roommate role, such as a senior pet? It’s important to know what your expectations are for your new pet.
  • Second, think about how this pet will fit into your lifestyle. Do you work long hours or regularly travel? No matter the type of pet, you’ll need to be able to care for them and meet their needs, so knowing whether you can do that consistently is key.
  • Third, ask yourself if you can afford it. The costs for a pet don’t stop after adoption. You will need to be prepared to pay for food, visits to the veterinarian, and accessories like collars, beds, and toys. So, knowing upfront what to expect throughout the lifetime of your pet will help you make a better-informed decision.
  • Fourth, you’ll need to consider things like whether your current housing will allow you to have a pet and if you or anyone who lives in your household has allergies.

Finally, if you ask yourself all these questions, and you’re ready to make a commitment that could bring you 10, 15, or even 20 years of happiness, unconditional love, and adventure, then you’re ready to welcome a pet into your family!
