A Norristown man is behind bars after attempting to flee from officers during a late-night traffic stop in Bensalem earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on March 1, resulted in the recovery of a handgun equipped with an extended magazine.
At approximately 1:23 a.m., patrol officers stopped a Jeep Patriot on Street Road near High Avenue after noticing the vehicle had an inoperable rear driver-side taillight. Upon further investigation, police discovered the vehicle’s registration had expired the previous day and the driver was operating with a suspended license.
During the interaction, officers reported a strong odor of marijuana and observed a burning marijuana cigar in the center console. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Hasan Pearson, did not possess a medical marijuana card. While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, officers located a handgun with an extended magazine. Pearson did not have a valid permit to carry the firearm.
As officers attempted to place Pearson under arrest, he reportedly fled on foot, leading police on a brief chase through the neighborhood. Officers were able to apprehend him quickly without further incident.
Pearson faces several charges, including firearms violations, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest. The Bensalem Township Police Department noted that this arrest is part of their ongoing commitment to removing illegal weapons and narcotics from the community.
Status
Hasan Pearson was arraigned by District Justice Stacy Wertman. He was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post 10% of $90,000 bail.
