Bensalem Officers Brave the Icy Waters for Special Olympics

Share

While most of us were bundled up against the February chill, members of the Bensalem Township Police Department were heading straight for the water. On Friday, February 20, local officers participated in the 2026 Pennsylvania Special Olympics Polar Plunge, diving into freezing temperatures for a good cause.

Bensalem joined a group of 108 law enforcement members from across the region who braved the icy waters to support inclusive sports and medical programming for local athletes.

The Details

This annual event is a cornerstone fundraiser for the Special Olympics in the Greater Philadelphia Region. This year’s plunge had a ton of local agencies show up, showing how the police in the area really work together, not just on patrol, but also helping out in the community.

The funds raised through this shivering tradition go directly toward eliminating costs for Special Olympics athletes. This includes providing high-quality sports competitions, nutritional programs, and essential medical screenings. Because of the bravery of participants like those from our own Bensalem PD, these athletes are able to train and compete at no cost to themselves or their families.

Why It Matters to Bensalem

For Bensalem residents, seeing our local officers participate in the Polar Plunge is a reminder of the department’s commitment to the community outside of their daily uniforms. These officers are often the same faces you see patrolling Street Road or working with students in our schools through the PAL programs.

By supporting the Special Olympics, the Bensalem Police Department ensures that local individuals with disabilities have access to valuable health and social opportunities within the Greater Philadelphia region. This action truly embodies the “Bensalem Spirit”—demonstrating courage in the face of the cold to include everyone.
