Bensalem Man Arrested for Shooting Up His Home With Family Trapped in Basement

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 4:20 am Bensalem Police responded to 911 calls of shots fired in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Duncksferry Road where officers immediately established a cordon and began evacuating residents from their homes. The suspect continued to fire shots, striking a home across the street, in the direction of officers who promptly took cover.

The Bucks County South SWAT team was called to the scene where their negotiators determined the suspect’s family was trapped in the basement. SWAT unit members evacuated the family to safety before making contact with the suspect later identified as Jeffery Weikel, 52, from Bensalem. They were able to get Weikel to leave his home unarmed and was taken into custody without further incident.

Jeffery Weikel had fired multiple rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun and was charged with Aggravated Assault, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure as well as other related charges.

Weikel was arraigned in front of District Justice Joseph Falcone where bail was set at $10 Million, along with a mandatory mental health evaluation.
