BCDH to Spray for Mosquitoes In “Bensalem”
The Bucks County Department of Health (BCDH) West Nile Virus Mosquito Control Program will be spraying for mosquitos on Monday, July 22, to reduce high populations and lower the possibility of transmitting the West Nile virus in “Bensalem Township”.
However, let’s be clear here, the treatment area is bounded by Atlantic Ave., Dunksferry Road, Brown Ave., and Hulmeville Road. This is basically around the Bensalem Country Club.
Meanwhile, the township leaves areas like this yard behind a row of Bensalem residential homes. Areas owned by Bensalem Township.
Year after year the residents complain to the township with no relief in sight. Areas that are the prototypical breeding ground for mosquitos are left to fester, despite yearly pleas from homeowners to take care of the town’s property or at least return to deal with the annual insect problem it causes.
The treatment will be administered via truck-mounted equipment, spraying mosquito habitats in residential and park locations. Trucks used in the spray are identified with Bucks County seal logos located on the doors.
The pesticide used is Duet and is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The chemical has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact on non-target insects and the environment.
Certain mosquito species carry the West Nile virus, which can cause humans to contract West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all residents in areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of contracting West Nile encephalitis.
If conditions do not allow application on July 22, Tuesday evening, July 23, will serve as the backup spray date.
