Amtrak Bridge Work Prompts Detours and Road Closures on Haunted Lane in Bensalem
Bensalem commuters should prepare for significant weekday disruptions starting next month. Amtrak is scheduled to begin overhead bridge repairs on Haunted Lane, requiring the road to be closed to through traffic during daytime hours for nearly three months.
The closures will take place between Marshall Lane and Bristol Pike (U.S. 13) starting Tuesday, February 17.
The Details
The work is slated to run through May 14, with crews on-site Monday through Friday. To minimize the impact on the morning and evening rush, the road will only be closed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. During these hours, a detour will be in effect, though PennDOT has confirmed that residents who live within the work zone will still have local access to their properties.
If you typically use Haunted Lane to cut between the residential areas and the main highways, you will be redirected to use State Road, Street Road (Route 132), and Bristol Pike (U.S. 13). As with all bridge work, this schedule is weather-dependent, so rainy or snowy days could push the completion date further into the spring.
Why It Matters to Bensalem
For those living in the neighborhoods near the Neshaminy Creek or traveling toward the Bristol Pike corridor, this isn’t just a minor inconvenience. Haunted Lane serves as a vital connector, and its closure means significant overflow traffic onto Street Road and State Road.
Expect “The Pike” and Street Road to be more congested than usual during the lunch hour and early afternoon. If you’re heading to the Philadelphia Park area or commuting toward Croydon, you should factor in an extra 10 to 15 minutes to navigate the detours.
